Our take on the new EA FC 25 custom tactics

EA Sports recently announced EA FC 25, which includes many new features. One is FC IQ, a new way to instruct your players and team. FC IQ includes new custom tactics, which we will review in this article, including a deep dive by our Team Gullit coaches.

New Custom Tactics and FC IQ explained

FC IQ is an all-encompassing way to instruct your team and players. FC IQ covers both the new Player Roles and custom tactics. Unlike previous games, where you set your custom tactic before a game, you can now change your tactics on the fly. EA allows you to set up five custom tactics you can cycle through using the d-pad on your controller. When you are in the lead, you can quickly switch from attacking to defence, for example. EA FC 25 will also give you tactical suggestions, that will help newer players out in choosing the correct tactics during a game. With this, EA focuses on more dynamic team play, where tactics take a more significant chunk in determining your skill as an EA FC 25 player.

Luckily, EA Sports has also invested in a new way to share your custom tactics with the world. Each custom tactic generates a unique code you can share with your friends so they can use the same custom tactic(s) you do. Or, of course, you could grab one from our Team Gullit athletes.

Not only that but EA Sports will also allow players to copy custom tactics from football tacticians such as Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti in EA FC 25 Ultimate Team. For this, you will need the managerial card of that specific coach. However, this isn't much of an issue given the recent games, as coach cards are easy to come by.

What do the Team Gullit coaches think of the new FC IQ Custom Tactics?

The new tactic system sounds exciting and could significantly enhance strategic gameplay. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

New Player Roles: New roles diversify gameplay, allowing us to rethink player utilization and create innovative strategies.

Custom Positions: Assigning custom positions provides flexibility in formations, letting us tailor setups to our players' abilities and better adapt to opponents.

On and Off the Ball Formations: Distinct formations for possession and defense are revolutionary. This dual-formation approach allows for more fluid, responsive tactics, making our strategies harder for opponents to predict and counter.

Set Pieces Customization: Customizing player positions for set pieces is a long-awaited feature. It enables us to exploit matchups, develop unique routines, and increase scoring opportunities from dead-ball situations.

Tactical Flexibility: These changes encourage in-depth tactical planning and on-the-fly adjustments, requiring us to experiment and be proactive in match decisions.

The new system's effectiveness will depend on its integration and user-friendliness during matches. It's exciting to consider the new strategies we can develop.

The new tactic system is going to be very interesting. Of course, we must wait to see how effective the changes will be, but the new player roles sound good. I'm looking forward to the freedom in formations since you can pick custom positions for your players by the look of it.

Not only that, you can set certain formations both on and off the ball. Compared to previous years, when you were stuck in one formation and could switch it a bit with instructions, this will open up new opportunities for tactical advantage over your opponent. The same goes for the new set pieces, where you can finally pick the position of certain players. For us as coaches, there are plenty of new things to find out in this!

EA FC 25, the IQ feature, will be a blast for me. As a coach, you want to have an impact on how esports players can perform at their best level. So you want to suit their tactics as best as possible, which commends their play style.
